Occasionally, I feel the pull to New York City. And by occasionally, I mean, often. More to come on that soon!
As working mom, you can probably imagine that many of my vacations fall more on the two- or three-day length versus a full week or more. My best part of New York City is that it’s so large, so diverse, so much to see, to do, to eat, to observe, to experience, and with four seasons a year, it is truly one of the places you can go back to again and again and have a whole different trip.
I spent one of those short weekend trips to New York this past February for a portion of New York Fashion Week. Not to attend any shows, but as a lover of style just to be around the energy and the culture of fashion week. My priority for this current trip was to be around stylish areas and to stay away from heavy tourist attractions. And to consum many good coffees, track down at least one really good NY bagel, and, the ultimate luxury… at least one 8 hour night of rest.
Weeks, and I mean weeks, were spent planning my wardrobe for this trip. Even though it’s a city of millions, and nobody cares what this Midwesterner is wearing, being in the city during fashion week just felt like an occasion enough to put a little more care into my closet.
This blue Gigi and Pip Teddy Cattleman Cowgirl hat was the highlight piece of the weekend. It’s not a bad price for a high-quality and authentic western style hat, and it’s one I plan to wear again and again.
I’m in love with the moment of the cape right now. This beautiful floor length white one is from Selezza London and in all honesty I don’t imagine re-wearing often so I do wish I would’ve found one at a lower price point. In the meantime, I’ve been stocking my closet with many different variations of cape tops and dresses from Zara, H&M, and Reformation.

A monochromatic look is my go-to when I’m not sure what to pull together. This cool toned navy trench from Jason Wu made me feel like I should be answering emails from an abandoned cliff-side castle in Scotland, probably also a covert operative. And you know what? I liked this more than I thought I would.

My closet overflows with suits, but this gray wool blend from H&M’s recent spring line is the suit of my dreams. The jacekt can be worn in a few different ways, is flattering, and just the right amount of weight to be structured but not overly heavy. The more subtle pinstripe details add a little bit of character to an otherwise ordinary color. For those on the petite size, the pants run pretty long, so it’s one that requires a bit of tailoring.

I hope you’re inspired to book a getaway to a place that fills you with energy and dreams. It might not be enough time, but a little taste has always been more satisfactory to me than nothing at all.
Until I see you again, New York. Coming soon…
With love,
Kaia
